Campus Director- San Antonio

The Campus Director – San Antonio will be the face of K9s For Warriors in Texas and oversee the Petco Foundation K9 Center. This Director will provide leadership and direction to the staff at the Petco Foundation K9 Center and be responsible for development, fundraising, marketing and public relations within the community and surrounding areas in collaboration with and support by relevant departments at headquarters.

Essential Functions

  • Establish, maintain and leverage relationships with representatives of various organizations and local governments throughout the state of Texas to strategically enhance K9s For Warriors’ mission
  • Manage the development, construction and facility operations of the Petco Foundation K9 Center
  • As the public face and representative of K9s For Warriors, attend events and speak with reporters, donors, government representatives and community members about K9s For Warriors’ mission, initiatives and fundraising.
  • Plan and coordinate all development/fundraising and community engagement activities while appropriately allocating time and resources based on analyzing return on investment
  • Travel throughout the State of Texas on K9s For Warriors’ business in collaboration with and approval of your supervisor
  • Manage and provide strategic guidance to staff assigned to the Petco Foundation K9 Center
  • In collaboration with the Advancement/Development team at headquarters, prepare and execute a fundraising plan to support the financial operations of the Petco Foundation K9 Center
  • In collaboration with the Education/Marketing team at headquarters, prepare collateral materials, press reports, communications and social media to promote awareness of and fundraising for K9s For Warriors and the Petco Foundation K9s Center
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversee Kennel Manager and staff


Other Duties

  • Participate in special projects and take on additional tasks as assigned
  • In close collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Company leadership, act as the Company local liaison with building project managers, architects, designers, contractors and vendors to construct the Petco Foundation K9 Center


Education Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, communications, or related field
  • Knowledge of issues facing Veterans and a passion for serving this community
  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience
  • Budget management experience, including creating, analyzing, and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Government relations and policy experience
  • Experience with nonprofit program development and management

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position will directly manage the Kennel Manager and future hires


Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Local State Travel will be required


K9 Trainer

Basic Function

Under the direction of the Manager of K9 Training and general supervision of the assigned Lead K9 Trainer, the K9 Trainer is responsible for training canines through several different phases which includes obedience and public access, to more advanced tasks based on our protocols, training standards and standard operating procedures.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Train assigned canines to perform individual tasks qualifying them to become a Service Dog
  • Maintain each canine’s medical, training, and evaluation records as per our policies and procedures
  • Track issues with in-training canines
  • Review training logs and recording the times in a spreadsheet
  • Have open communication with all trainers and making sure that the Lead K9 Trainer is updated on relevant matters associated with the trainers and canines
  • Assist in the care and health of our canines which consists of feeding, breaking, and or providing medications when needed
  • Liaise with the Lead K9 Trainer on the progression of each canine’s training ability
  • Transport canines as required
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision and handle oneself in a professional matter at all times

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management


  • H.S. diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of professional dog training experience
  • Must have basic computer literacy skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s license required
  • Some kennel experience preferred

Physical Demands

  • Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort
  • Walk 3 to 5 miles per day on average
  • Work on feet most of the day

Full time, 40 hours per week

K9 Caretaker

The K9 Caretaker supports the proper operation of the kennels, which includes the cleaning and maintenance of the kennel facilities, feeding and caring of the dogs and ensuring the overall safety of the kennel facilities and dogs.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Cleaning the individual dog kennels and surrounding kennel facilities, to include pressure washing, scrubbing and disinfecting
  • Cleaning dog bowls, toys and laundering towels
  • Bathing dogs
  • Providing food and fresh water for the dogs
  • Walking the dogs between kennels and other areas of the facilities, while strictly adhering to all policies and procedures for handling the dogs
  • Lifting and stocking dog food and kennel supplies
  • Assisting the veterinary technician with securing the dogs during veterinary treatment
  • Removing and disposing of waste from dog waste stations
  • Monitoring medical and behavioral condition of dogs, notating the kennel cards and notifying appropriate staff of concerns
  • Follow the direction of the team lead

Other Duties

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
  • Maintain good communication with kennel staff and management 
  • Maintain good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees


  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends

Physical Demands

  • Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort, including stooping, crouching, walking stairs, climbing and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds individually

** Shifts vary based on needs of the kennel; to include weekends, holidays, evenings and rotating days off.
