Donor Relations Manager

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of war, such as Post-Traumatic Stress. We are the fastest growing non-profit in America. Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of an experienced Donor Relations Manager to join our amazing team.

Role and Responsibilities

Working under the direction of the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), the Donor Relations Manager (DRM) plays a key and integral role in the success of K9s For Warriors fund development efforts, specifically through ongoing and proactive relationship management, strategic communications planning, gifts cultivation and solicitation activity with an assigned caseload of qualified major donors. In this role, the DRM will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors acting as the primary contact between K9s and the assigned caseload, with an emphasis on securing gifts of $10,000 and higher, increasing overall major gifts to K9s For Warriors while retaining and strengthening existing giving. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key.

The DRM must be a team player who also works well independently, has strong leadership abilities and an entrepreneurial spirit, possesses initiative, has unparalleled attention to detail, and excels in being creative, dependable, flexible, and resourceful. The DRM will work in conjunction with the CAO, Associate Director of Development and consultants to design, develop and implement K9s For Warriors’ annual major gift plan (individual contributions of $10,000+). The DRM will be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects and meet annual fundraising objectives. This position works closely with program managers, CAO and CEO to align major gifts efforts with the K9s For Warriors’ strategic plan and mission. The DRM’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist donors in accomplishing their philanthropic goals through a relationship with K9s For Warriors
  • Establish, manage and fulfill a caseload communications plan, including individual fundraising goals and personalized strategies, to effectively steward, educate, cultivate and solicit gifts from major donors each fiscal year, with an emphasis on gifts of $10,000 and higher
  • Manage a minimum caseload of 150 assigned and qualified major donors and maintain and seek to engage with a small additional prospective donor “watch list” as assigned, following the agreed upon communications plan that is specific to each donor and prospect
  • Lead in one-to-one solicitation, gift acknowledgement and stewardship communication
  • Travel as necessary, establishing and maintaining excellent donor relations, providing written proposals to major gift prospects as needed, and including K9s leadership as appropriate
  • Work in collaboration with program, finance, development, education/communications and admin support staff to develop a portfolio of giving opportunities (cases for support) that documents funding needs in terms of real program costs, how dollars impact our warriors and rescue dogs, outcomes being achieved, shortfalls and exciting mission advancement opportunities; presenting these opportunities to donors to effectively match donor interests with K9s advancement needs
  • Manage all office systems related to DRM duties, including maintaining updated donor files, tracking spreadsheets, correspondence and gift acknowledgments, etc., in keeping with department policies and procedures
  • Document all donor interactions through contact reports and according to established business practices, including K9s For Warriors’ donor database and wealth screening tools
  • Ensure excellent customer service is provided to donors through accessibility to staff and leadership (as granted), timely responsiveness, quality in all interactions and personalized communications.
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the CAO and other staff with their portfolio solicitation
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 5-years, minimum, demonstrated experience in non-profit fundraising; 3+ years in major gift solicitation strongly preferred
  • Ability to secure individual major gifts of $10,000+
  • Successful track-record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting new individual donors
  • Record of measurable results in organizing and implementing development events and related activities
  • Comfortable using a donor database, prospect research and other wealth screening tools to aid in the moves management process; experience with Blackbaud products preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management or a related field
  • A valid driver’s license required

  • A self-starter driven by results
  • Willingness to travel to meet with current and prospective donors; some overnight travel is required
  • Strategist adept at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking and follow-through
  • Willing and capable to work hands-on developing and executing fundraising events and other activities as needed
  • Committed to and enthusiastic about K9s For Warriors
  • Military background or veteran status is a plus

Additional Notes

Our advancement team and organization directors participate in close collaborative work; therefore this individual is on site in our Ponte Vedra, FL office. Due to the nature of this position frequent local and national travel, including overnight, is required.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Digital Communications Manager is responsible for the strategic development, planning, and execution of K9s For Warriors’ digital communications activities. This is a multidisciplinary, creative role that combines the areas of public relations, graphic design, advertising, and social media in order to advance the mission and goals of the organization. The Digital Communications Manager will apply current trends and best practices of the digital marketing industry to build and manage the reputation of the organization. This creative professional should have a robust portfolio of diverse digital marketing assets as well as profound experience constructing and implementing strategic digital marketing campaigns from start to finish. This role requires expert proficiency in social media marketing, including but not limited to: content creation, planning, scheduling, engaging, and advertising. Understanding of social media analytics is required. Experience in website management, SEO, SMO, and blogging are definite. This manager should also possess advanced skills in creating rich media, video features, video clips, audio clips, gifs, web banners, and CTA buttons. Ability to create image-based, cutting-edge PowerPoints and decks for board presentations, media/partner pitches, proposals, and strategic projects required by the Advancement Department, as well as the CEO and CMO is needed. The person in this role will also interact with national partners, third party vendors, and advertising agencies.

  • Plan, create, schedule, and edit social media content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube
  • Develop, schedule, and maintain strategic advertising utilizing Facebook Business Manager, Facebook Ads Manager, and Power Editor
  • Respond to daily inquiries and questions on all social media platforms
  • Engage with donors, supporters, followers, volunteers, warriors, and other groups on all social media platforms
  • Assist with graphic design, Web design and copywriting projects
  • Design infographics, collages, gifs, clips, videos, banners, blogs, and other forms of digital content
  • Contribute to quarterly newsletter
  • Build content around the needs of the organization
  • Produce content on the following subjects: military relations, veteran affairs, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, military sexual trauma, service dog relations, animal welfare, veteran suicide, program success, etc
  • Must be passionate about social issues, primarily breaking down the stigmas associated with mental health and veteran PTSD
  • Coordinate projects with other members of the marketing/education department – as well as other departments, e.g., warrior relations, operations, advancement
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors and national brands
  • Increase donations and awareness through digital efforts
  • Present digital analytics at staff meetings
  • Complete special projects as needed

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 4-year degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in social media and digital asset management
  • Knowledge of marketing, advertising, design, and public relations best practices, laws, and guidelines

Puppy Program Manager

Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of a certified dog trainer to be the Puppy Program Manager.

Under the general direction of the Manager of K9 Training, the Puppy Program Manager is responsible for the management and supervision of the puppies, foster dogs, and volunteers in our program. This position requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, due to working with multiple departments (kennel, procurement, training, medical, and volunteers). This position also requires some weekend and afternoon shifts.

  • Working knowledge of how to teach dogs various behaviors
  • Read and understand dog body language
  • Run/supervise group training classes
  • Convey training philosophies/techniques to raisers and other volunteers
  • Understand early neurological stimulation and proper breeding/whelping techniques
  • Maintain all records and documentation that are associated with the fostering and raising of young K9s in our program
  • Conduct home visits with applicants and coach them on what to expect when raising a puppy
  • Place puppies in appropriate raiser homes and coordinate logistics of camping and temporary homes
  • Maintain relationships with breeders and plan ahead when breeders may have puppies available
  • Supervise Puppy Program Advisors

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Required dog training certification from an accredited school or minimum 2 years equivalent dog training work experience
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Ability to read and understand breeder pedigree information
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Must have basic computer literacy skills
  • Must actively be able to read, speak, and write in English
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, work on feet for most of the day

Kennel Operations Manager

Role and Responsibilities

Under the general direction and supervision of the Regional Director - Texas, the Kennel Operations Manager will coordinate and manage the K9 Intake System (Dog Depot) in San Antonio, Texas. This position will supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for daily kennel operations for K9S For Warriors. This position provides leadership and long-range planning to ensure that K9S is implementing the best practices and providing all animals with the highest standard of care.

Manage staff responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, assign supervise and review the work of staff responsible for the daily kennel operation activities. Establish schedules, continued education, oversight, and feedback for kennel daily operations, NOT training services.
  • Leads and participates in staff meetings regarding behavior evaluations, placement divisions, and protocol improvements. Solicits ideas and feedback from animal care staff on how to improve animal care.
  • Assists in hiring kennel staff and provides or coordinates consistent staff training. Work with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures
  • Communicate with procurement coordinator/kennel manager to resolve issues that occur after main operating hours (evening and weekends)
  • Communicate dog numbers, medical issues, process changes, kennel issues to all kennel staff via daily recap

Kennels/Yards

  • Implement policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices
  • Keep records and prepare various reports on operations and activities, including staff activity logs, animal health, complaint reports, kennel supplies and kennel animal care supplies; maintain data in Kennel Connection
  • Notify Kennel Maintenance with needed repair work, problems and malfunctions of equipment
  • Ensure kennels and yards are functioning properly
  • Maintain kennel supply, food and treat inventories and place orders when needed

Dog well-being

  • Liaise with procurement coordinator/kennel manager set up new dog intakes
  • Oversee the health and wellness of the kennel dogs and assists in the communication of all departments with lead trainer
  • Oversee recording and maintaining medical supply logs, inventory & behavioral concerns working with lead trainer

Supervisory skills

  • Demonstrate leadership ability including motivational techniques, team building, collaboration, professional development and training methods
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and sincere desire and commitment to helping other reach their full potential
  • Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, community, local veterinarians, and clients
  • Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Kennel Assistant

Helping our veterans and rescuing dogs is our priority at K9s For Warriors, it has led to our success. As a result, we continue to grow, and we are searching for a Kennel Assistant.  K9s For Warriors is one of the largest veteran’s service dog organizations in the United States.

Basic Function

The Kennel Assistant supports the proper operation of the canine kennels, which includes the cleaning and maintenance of the kennel facilities, feeding and caring for the kenneled dogs and ensuring the overall safety of the kennel facilities and the dogs.

** Shifts may vary based on needs of the kennel, to include weekends, evenings and rotating days off.

 

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Cleaning the individual dog kennels and surrounding kennel facilities, to include pressure washing, scrubbing and disinfecting
  • Cleaning the dog bowls and toys
  • Bathing dogs
  • Laundering towels
  • Providing food and fresh water for the dogs
  • Walking the dogs between kennels and other areas of the organization’s facilities, while strictly adhering to all policies and procedures for handling the dogs
  • Lifting and stocking dog food and kennel supplies
  • Assisting the veterinary technician with securing the dogs during veterinary treatment
  • Removing and disposing of waste from dog waste stations and cleaning the stations
  • Monitoring medical and behavioral condition of dogs, notating the kennel cards/logs and notifying appropriate staff of concerns
  • Monitoring kennel facility for any hazards or safety concerns

 

Other Duties

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
  • Maintaining good communication with kennel staff and management
  • Maintaining good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees

Qualifications

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds individually

K9 Trainer

Helping our veterans and rescuing dogs is our priority at K9s For Warriors, it has led to our success. As a result, we continue to grow, and we are searching for K9 Trainers with at least 1 years of dog training experience. If your experience and background consists of service dog training and maintenance, we especially want to hear from you. K9s For Warriors is one of the largest veteran’s service dog organizations in the United States.

We have immediate openings for K9 Trainers who will be responsible for maintaining the canines that are assigned to them for their training. Our candidates will be detail oriented and will need to be able to maintain each canine’s medical, training and evaluation records as per our policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for training dogs through several different phases which will include, obedience and public access to more advanced tasks based on our protocols and standard operating procedures.

Our candidate will also need excellent communication skills to answer training questions and resolve issues with our veterans and their service dogs. A common knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word is required as is good written and oral communication skills. Our trainers are also responsible for assisting in the care and health of our dogs which consists of feeding, breaking, and or providing medications when needed.
