Procurement Specialist

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of war, such as Post-traumatic Stress. Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their disabilities. It takes a team effort to make this happen. Our dedicated staff, no matter what department, comes into work knowing that they are helping to save lives! Our mission-first culture has guided our incredible success and growth. In order to help fuel our life-changing program, we are in search of a K9 Procurement and Adoption Specialist.

Role and Responsibilities

Under the general direction and supervision of the Manager of Training, the specialist is responsible for the procurement and adoption of the dogs in our program and maintaining of all associated records and documentation. Adoption duties include but are not limited to: setting up posts on the Facebook site and reviewing applicants; setting up appointments for applicants to meet the dogs they are interested in.  Other duties include: responding to emails on general K9s info address and responding to voice messages. Must be able to travel to animal shelters and humane societies for the temperament testing and procurement of dogs.  Required to maintain relationships with various breeders, shelters, organizations so that quality dogs can be procured for our program.   

Must actively be able to read, speak, and write in English. Must have basic computer literacy skills and can handle multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously while working in a busy environment.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs., work on feet for most of the day. Specialist will be required to work all shifts, including nights and weekends when scheduled.

Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision and handle oneself in a professional manner when dealing with the various shelters/rescues.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

H.S. diploma or equivalent.

Ability to multi-task

Good organization and time management skills

Ability to work independently and also within a group setting.

Make appointments for dogs entering kennel to have their hips evaluated by veterinarian.

Provide transportation for dogs with regards to veterinary care and when dogs need to be surrendered back to shelters of origin.

Good communication skills a must

Need to be able to walk through a shelter and look at all types of dogs objectively and follow the company’s guidelines

Preferred Skills

Some kennel experience preferred but not required.

Warrior Relations Specialist

Summary/Objective

Under the direct supervision of the Warrior Relations Manager, The Warrior Relations Specialist’s primary function is to be the principal liaison for the warrior applicant/graduate. This employee will be responsible for coordinating, following-up and communicating with the warriors.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of the Veterans community and issues regarding serving clients from this community
  • Experience in working with Veteran Service Organizations and/or Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Ability to work with persons with mental and physical disabilities
  • Temperament must be well mannered and balanced
  • Ability to carry on coherent conversations with challenging clients
  • Possess patience to interact with challenging clients
  • This position requires the candidate possess a strong ability to speak clearly, and effectively as well as the ability to listen to and hear, clients who may be in distress. Strong analytical skills

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Veteran status
  • Bachelor’s degree

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Managing all phases of the Warrior application process, including:
    • Collecting and screening of all required paperwork
    • Conducting phone interviews with warriors
    • Collecting references on warriors
    • Reviewing and approving application package, forwarding for 2nd level approval, and final approval from the Warrior Relations Manager
    • Determining class dates and scheduling warrior accordingly, providing acceptance paperwork
    • Completing all in-class administrative functions on behalf of warriors
  • Interacting with warriors through various modes of communication to include phone, e-mail, and in-person meetings
    • Serving as a point of contact for future, current and graduated warriors:
    • Maintaining pre-class contact with warriors at prescribed intervals via phone, email, and regular mail
    • Maintaining pre-class and post-class contact with warriors as per department policies
  • Scheduling recertification for warriors as required
  • Managing warrior data in paper form and a proprietary database
  • Acting as the liaison between warriors and the other departments at K9s for Warriors.
  • Responding to the inbound communication from warriors and family members regarding program
  • Coordinating with dog trainers and warrior trainers ensuring they have the information necessary to make an appropriate service dog match
  • Participate as necessary in the onboarding and in-processing of new warrior classes
  • Manage all in-class paperwork to be added to cumulative warrior file
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of graduation ceremonies for warrior graduates

·         Knowledge of the Veterans community and issues regarding serving clients from this community

·         Experience in working with Veteran Service Organizations and/or Department of Veterans Affairs

·         Temperament must be well mannered and balanced

·         Ability to carry on coherent conversations with challenging clients
