Campus Director- San Antonio

Summary/Objective
The Campus Director – San Antonio will be the face of K9s For Warriors in Texas and oversee the Petco Foundation K9 Center. This Director will provide leadership and direction to the staff at the Petco Foundation K9 Center and be responsible for development, fundraising, marketing and public relations within the community and surrounding areas in collaboration with and support by relevant departments at headquarters.

Essential Functions

  • Establish, maintain and leverage relationships with representatives of various organizations and local governments throughout the state of Texas to strategically enhance K9s For Warriors’ mission
  • Manage the development, construction and facility operations of the Petco Foundation K9 Center
  • As the public face and representative of K9s For Warriors, attend events and speak with reporters, donors, government representatives and community members about K9s For Warriors’ mission, initiatives and fundraising.
  • Plan and coordinate all development/fundraising and community engagement activities while appropriately allocating time and resources based on analyzing return on investment
  • Travel throughout the State of Texas on K9s For Warriors’ business in collaboration with and approval of your supervisor
  • Manage and provide strategic guidance to staff assigned to the Petco Foundation K9 Center
  • In collaboration with the Advancement/Development team at headquarters, prepare and execute a fundraising plan to support the financial operations of the Petco Foundation K9 Center
  • In collaboration with the Education/Marketing team at headquarters, prepare collateral materials, press reports, communications and social media to promote awareness of and fundraising for K9s For Warriors and the Petco Foundation K9s Center
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversee Kennel Manager and staff

Other Duties

  • Participate in special projects and take on additional tasks as assigned
  • In close collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Company leadership, act as the Company local liaison with building project managers, architects, designers, contractors and vendors to construct the Petco Foundation K9 Center

Education Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, communications, or related field
  • Knowledge of issues facing Veterans and a passion for serving this community
  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience
  • Budget management experience, including creating, analyzing, and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Government relations and policy experience
  • Experience with nonprofit program development and management

K9 Trainer

Basic Function

Under the direction of the Manager of K9 Training and general supervision of the assigned Lead K9 Trainer, the K9 Trainer is responsible for training canines through several different phases which includes obedience and public access, to more advanced tasks based on our protocols, training standards and standard operating procedures.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Train assigned canines to perform individual tasks qualifying them to become a Service Dog
  • Maintain each canine’s medical, training, and evaluation records as per our policies and procedures
  • Track issues with in-training canines
  • Review training logs and recording the times in a spreadsheet
  • Have open communication with all trainers and making sure that the Lead K9 Trainer is updated on relevant matters associated with the trainers and canines
  • Assist in the care and health of our canines which consists of feeding, breaking, and or providing medications when needed
  • Liaise with the Lead K9 Trainer on the progression of each canine’s training ability
  • Transport canines as required
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision and handle oneself in a professional matter at all times

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of professional dog training experience
  • Must have basic computer literacy skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s license required
  • Some kennel experience preferred

  • Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort
  • Walk 3 to 5 miles per day on average
  • Work on feet most of the day

Manager of K9 Training

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Military Sexual Trauma. Our program is unique, comprehensive, and proven. We provide each warrior with a service canine, equipment, training, certification, seminars, legal instruction, vet care, housing, home cooked meals, unconditional love and listening, and a life-time of wrap-around services. In essence, we don’t just give each of our warriors a service dog, we give them the K9s Family. In order to continue the great work we are doing, we are in need of a K9 Training Manager to join our amazing team!

Basic Function
Under the direction and supervision of the President, the Manager of K9 Training is responsible for directing and overseeing the entire team of K9 Trainers. The Manager will develop, implement and coordinate the K9 Training program to ensure dogs are successfully trained to become Service Dogs for the K9s For Warriors program.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Manage a team of K9 Trainers who are responsible for training assigned dogs to become a service dog
  • Manage training team’s progression of canines within the program
  • Responsible for hiring, scheduling, development, performance reviews, counseling, and approving time cards for K9 Trainers
  • Assign canines to trainers
  • Assigning new trainers to mentor program
  • Coordinate with mentor trainers to ensure all supplies are given to new hire and ensure new hires are progressing successfully through each stage of the mentor program
  • Determine when a dog needs to be released from the program
  • Communicate how canines are progressing through training to various departments
  • Review documentation from trainers for each K9 in the program. Prepare files for each graduate and make sure all documents are complied for each dog transitioning to class
  • Consult, advise and coordinate with Medical, Puppy and Procurement Departments
  • Work with Warrior Relations and Warrior Trainers to determine/select the canine and warrior teams to be paired for class
  • Work with warrior trainers to become proficient in behavioral concepts
  • Coordinate and liaise with the Advancement and Education Team assist with marketing endeavors and public relations
  • As needed support graduates and their canines with any concerns that may arise after graduation/leaving campus
  • Coordinate and communicate with various departments within the organization including remote campuses

Qualifications

  • 3 -5 years of previous management experience
  • Certification from an accredited canine training school or equivalent relevant work experience
  • At least 2 year of canine training experience
  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must have basic computer literacy skills
  • Some kennel experience preferred
  • Must be comfortable on camera for public relations/ marketing

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs for American veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and/or military sexual trauma. It provides each warrior with a service canine, equipment, training, certification, seminars, legal instruction, vet care, housing, home cooked meals, unconditional love and listening, and a lifetime of wrap-around services. K9s operates from two locations: a nine-acre, state-of-the-art campus in Ponte Vedra, Florida, and a unique residential home in Alachua, Florida. By pairing veterans with well-trained service dogs, who are themselves rescues, the organization has been instrumental in the recovery of hundreds of disabled veterans, and, most importantly, has been incredibly successful at preventing veteran suicide.

K9s For Warriors seeks a proven marketing executive with a passion for the mission of K9s For Warriors. The ideal candidate should be a seasoned, well-rounded communications professional who understands emerging marketing trends and market expansion, backed with a successful track record in achieving mission driven goals.  He or she will be a visionary, able to inspire and harness the talents and hard work of their team and the people around them to achieve that vision.  

The next K9s For Warriors CMO must be a person of the highest integrity and will have demonstrated strengths in valuing people, in building unified, collaborative teams, and in cultivating positive, inspirational team environments.

She or he must have a Bachelors’ Degree with a specialization in communications or marketing preferred. The successful candidate will have at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership role following, at minimum, a decade long career and advanced experience working with a variety of traditional and modern marketing and communications functions including branding and messaging to different target audiences.

K9 Caretaker

The K9 Caretaker supports the proper operation of the kennels, which includes the cleaning and maintenance of the kennel facilities, feeding and caring of the dogs and ensuring the overall safety of the kennel facilities and dogs.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Cleaning the individual dog kennels and surrounding kennel facilities, to include pressure washing, scrubbing and disinfecting
  • Cleaning dog bowls, toys and laundering towels
  • Bathing dogs
  • Providing food and fresh water for the dogs
  • Walking the dogs between kennels and other areas of the facilities, while strictly adhering to all policies and procedures for handling the dogs
  • Lifting and stocking dog food and kennel supplies
  • Assisting the veterinary technician with securing the dogs during veterinary treatment
  • Removing and disposing of waste from dog waste stations
  • Monitoring medical and behavioral condition of dogs, notating the kennel cards and notifying appropriate staff of concerns
  • Follow the direction of the team lead

Other Duties

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
  • Maintain good communication with kennel staff and management 
  • Maintain good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees

Qualifications

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends

  • Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort, including stooping, crouching, walking stairs, climbing and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds individually
