Veterinary Technician

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Military Sexual Trauma as a result of military service post-9/11. Our program is unique, comprehensive, and proven. We provide each warrior with a service canine, equipment, training, certification, seminars, legal instruction, vet care, housing, home-cooked meals, unconditional love and listening, and a life-time of wrap-around services. In essence, we don’t just give each of our warriors a service dog, we give them the K9s Family. In order to continue the great work we are doing, we are in need of a Veterinary Technician to join our amazing team!

Summary & Objective

Under the general direction and supervision of the Veterinary Medical Manager, the Veterinary Technician is responsible for the care and wellness of all dogs within our program and the maintenance of all medical records. This position may work closely with other managers in various departments (procurement, puppy program, kennel, and training). This position plays an important role in the oversight of the dog intake and medical procedures with the dogs.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Reviewing medical records of each dog upon intake
  • Updating vaccines (DHPP, Bordetella, Influenza, Leptospirosis)
  • Microchipping
  • Collecting samples (fecal, blood, and urine) and submitting to outside veterinary testing (Antech)
  • Communicating with local vet clinics to schedule appointments for both kennel dogs and puppy program dogs
  • Reporting any abnormalities to the Medical Manager
  • Ordering supplies and medications and maintaining inventory
  • Obtaining health certificates for transports when necessary
  • Updating veterinary computer software
  • Administering medications when appropriate
  • Updating and maintaining all records
  • Initiating emergency procedures if needed
  • Maintaining pharmacy records, controlled drug, fecal, and heartworm test logs
  • Maintaining health and rabies certificate files
  • Assisting in the transport of dogs to various veterinarians’ offices

Other Duties

  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Qualifications

  • Certification through an accredited veterinary technician program or relevant equivalent work experience
  • Ability to multi-task

Puppy Program Advisor

Basic Function
Under the general direction of the Puppy Program Manager, the Puppy Program Advisor is responsible for overseeing the training of both the volunteer puppy raisers and the puppies to get the puppies ready and prepared for service dog training. This position works very closely with volunteers, instructing, and teaching them in a group setting and on an individual basis. Interaction with multiple departments within the organization is required, e.g., the kennel, procurement, K9 training, and medical.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Instruct volunteers on proper training procedures and techniques for puppies in their care in accordance with the approved Ks For Warriors service dog training standards
  • Manage and coordinate Puppy Program volunteer activities, classes, calendars, ambassador events, and maintain records and documentation
  • Identify puppies needing individual training and develop customized plans as needed
  • Plan and teach puppy classes, volunteer-only classes, as well as handle one on one sessions with volunteers
  • Address various puppy behaviors and relay concerning or difficult information or updates to volunteers
  • Assist with or conduct evaluations of puppies being considered for the program
  • Conduct home visits with volunteer applicants and coach them on what to expect when raising a puppy
  • Represent K9s For Warriors and the Puppy Program in a professional manner in various public settings
  • Analyze Puppy Program data and generate reports as needed

Other Duties

  • Attend various Puppy Program activities off-campus
  • Work nights & weekends as needed

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Dog training certification from an accredited school or equivalent work experience
  • High school degree or equivalent

Chief Marketing Officer

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Chief Marketing Officer position is an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate to employ their marketing and communication skills in leadership, management, visionary thinking, and national media relations expertise for a strong organization composed of a committed, hardworking, and passionate team.

The next CMO will have an opportunity to work collaboratively with the education and advancement departments to educate key stakeholders, including the general public, media, sponsors, potential sponsors and various community/veteran organizations on K9s For Warriors’ mission to help veterans suffering from PTSD. This includes developing and managing communication strategies and tactics, supporting sponsors, community and media relationships, and working closely with K9s For Warriors programs department to ensure consistent, optimized support for the K9s for Warriors’ brand and mission.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Chief Marketing Officer will manage a team of 2 direct reports and 2 indirect reports, and a marketing budget that fits within the overall operating budget of $13 million. The next Chief Marketing Officer will think strategically about how to help support both the education and advancement departments and contribute to the raising of resources in support of the mission. The CMO will   be responsible for leading the development of graphically appealing internal and external publications, newsletters, email newsletters, announcements, planned publications, on-line, internet, video, special projects and assignments. They will be responsible for establishing a best in class website and social media presence which supports organization awareness and growth goals as well as creating rich and creative content that is optimized for search engines.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

K9s For Warriors seeks a proven marketing executive with a passion for the mission of K9s For Warriors. The ideal candidate should be a seasoned, well-rounded communications professional that understands emerging marketing trends and market expansion, backed with a successful track record in achieving mission driven goals.  He or she will be a visionary, able to inspire and harness the talents and hard work of their team and the people around them to achieve that vision but who will also roll up their sleeves and assist their small team when needed. It is also preferred that this candidate has experience either working for, or sitting on the board of, a non-profit organization, having successfully participated in the execution of integrated fundraising and marketing campaigns.

The next K9s For Warriors CMO must be a person of the highest integrity and will have demonstrated strengths in valuing people, in building unified, collaborative teams, and in cultivating positive, inspirational team environments.

She or he must have a Bachelors’ Degree with a specialization in Communications or Marketing preferred. The successful candidate will have at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership role, following at minimum, a decade long career and advanced experience working with a variety of traditional and modern marketing and communications functions including branding and messaging to different target audiences.

K9 Trainer: Alachua, FL

  • Track issues with in-training canines
  • Review training logs and recording the times in a spreadsheet
  • Have open communication with all trainers and making sure that the Lead K9 Trainer is updated on relevant matters associated with the trainers and canines
  • Assist in the care and health of our canines which consists of feeding, breaking, and or providing medications when needed
  • Liaise with the Lead K9 Trainer on the progression of each canine’s training ability
  • Transport canines as required
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision and handle oneself in a professional matter at all times

K9 Caretaker

The K9 Caretaker supports the proper operation of the kennels, which includes the cleaning and maintenance of the kennel facilities, feeding and caring of the dogs and ensuring the overall safety of the kennel facilities and dogs.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Cleaning the individual dog kennels and surrounding kennel facilities, to include pressure washing, scrubbing and disinfecting
  • Cleaning dog bowls, toys and laundering towels
  • Bathing dogs
  • Providing food and fresh water for the dogs
  • Walking the dogs between kennels and other areas of the facilities, while strictly adhering to all policies and procedures for handling the dogs
  • Lifting and stocking dog food and kennel supplies
  • Assisting the veterinary technician with securing the dogs during veterinary treatment
  • Removing and disposing of waste from dog waste stations
  • Monitoring medical and behavioral condition of dogs, notating the kennel cards and notifying appropriate staff of concerns
  • Follow the direction of the team lead

Other Duties

  • Maintain good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age
