Warrior Relations Specialist

Under the direct supervision of the Warrior Relations Manager, The Warrior Relations Specialist’s primary function is to be the principal liaison for the warrior applicant/graduate. This employee will be responsible for coordinating, following-up and communicating with the warriors.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   

  • Managing all phases of the Warrior application process, including:   
    • Collecting and screening of all required paperwork  
    • Conducting phone interviews with warriors  
    • Collecting references on warriors  
    • Reviewing and approving application package, forwarding for 2nd level approval, and final approval from COO  
    • Determining class dates and scheduling warrior accordingly, providing acceptance paperwork  
    • Completing all in-class administrative functions on behalf of warriors   
  • Interacting with warriors through various modes of communication to include phone, e-mail, and in-person meetings   
    • Serving as a point of contact for future, current and graduated warriors 
    • Maintaining pre-class contact with warriors at prescribed intervals via phone, email, and regular mail  
    • Maintaining post-class contact with warriors as per department policies   
  • Scheduling re-certification for warriors as required  
  • Managing warrior data in paper form and a proprietary database  
  • Acting as the liaison between warriors and the other departments at K9s for Warriors.  
  • Responding to the inbound communication from warriors and family members regarding program  
  • Coordinating with dog trainers and warrior trainers ensuring they have the information necessary to make an appropriate service dog match  
  • Planning travel for those warriors who need assistance  
  • Creating (and executing) operations plan for the arrival of warriors, including:   
    • Airport pick up time frames  
    • Warrior housing plans  
    • Warrior meal plan  
    • Personal property search plan  
    • In processing plan

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

K9 Procurement and Adoption Specialist

Under the general direction and supervision of the K9 Procurement and Adoption Manager, The K9 Procurement and Adoption Specialist is responsible for the procurement and adoption of dogs in our program and maintenance of all associated records and documentation.  

Essential Functions and Duties   

  • Travel to animal shelters and humane societies for temperament testing and procurement of dogs  
  • Maintain relationships with various breeders, shelters, organizations so that quality dogs can be procured for our program  
  • Walk through a shelter and look at all types of dogs objectively and follow the company’s guidelines  
  • Post adoptable dogs on social media  
  • Schedule appointments for potential adopters to come in and see dogs  
  • Assess adopters home life to make sure it is a good fit for released dogs  
  • Clerical duties: respond to emails, phone calls, and review rescue websites for potential dogs who meet our criteria  
  • Read and review medical records with some understanding of general medical issues  
  • Work independently with little or no supervision and in a professional manner at all times  
  • Provide transportation for dogs with regards to veterinary care and when dogs need to be surrendered back to shelters of origin   

Other Duties   

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management   

Qualifications   

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent relevant work experience  
  • Ability to understand dog body language is required  
  • Valid driver’s license is required  
  • Good communication skills  
  • Must have basic computer literacy skills and be able to handle multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously while working in a busy environment  
  • Previous work in a kennel setting, shelter or rescue group is preferred  
  • Previous dog training experience is an asset

  • Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort, including stooping, crouching, walking stairs, climbing and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds individually

K9 Caretaker

The K9 Caretaker supports the proper operation of the kennels, which includes the cleaning and maintenance of the kennel facilities, feeding and caring of the dogs and ensuring the overall safety of the kennel facilities and dogs.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Cleaning the individual dog kennels and surrounding kennel facilities, to include pressure washing, scrubbing and disinfecting
  • Cleaning dog bowls, toys and laundering towels
  • Bathing dogs
  • Providing food and fresh water for the dogs
  • Walking the dogs between kennels and other areas of the facilities, while strictly adhering to all policies and procedures for handling the dogs
  • Lifting and stocking dog food and kennel supplies
  • Assisting the veterinary technician with securing the dogs during veterinary treatment
  • Removing and disposing of waste from dog waste stations
  • Monitoring medical and behavioral condition of dogs, notating the kennel cards and notifying appropriate staff of concerns
  • Follow the direction of the team lead

Other Duties

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
  • Maintain good communication with kennel staff and management 
  • Maintain good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees

Qualifications

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends

Physical Demands

  • Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort, including stooping, crouching, walking stairs, climbing and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds individually

** Shifts vary based on needs of the kennel; to include weekends, holidays, evenings and rotating days off.

K9 Trainer

Under the direction of the Manager of K9 Training, and general supervision of the assigned Lead K9 Trainer, the K9 Trainer will be responsible for training dogs through several different phases which will include, obedience and public access to more advanced tasks based on our protocols and standard operating procedures.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Review training logs and recording the times in a spreadsheet
  • Coach other trainers through issues with their dogs
  • Have open communication with all trainers and making sure that the Lead K9 Trainer is updated on appropriate things associated with the trainers and dogs
  • Track issues with in-training dogs
  • Maintain each canine’s medical, training, and evaluation records as per our policies and procedures
  • Assist in the care and health of our dogs which consists of feeding, breaking, and or providing medications when needed
  • Liaise with the Lead K9 Trainer on the progression of each dogs training ability
  • Be available for phone consultations for graduated warriors that are having potential issues with their service dog
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision and handle oneself in a professional matter at all times
  • Transportation of dogs may be required

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of dog training experience
  • Must have basic computer literacy skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good communication skills
  • Valid Driver’s license required
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., work on feet for most of the day
  • Some kennel experience preferred
