Human Resources Manager

Position Overview:

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of war, such as Post-Traumatic Stress. Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of an experienced Human Resources Manager to join our amazing team in Ponte Vedra, FL.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Keep current of and proficient in administering all employment and labor law requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions. Ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.

  • Advertise job openings, review applications and resumes for qualifications, participate in interviews, and assist in evaluating and selecting qualified candidates to fill vacant positions. Coordinate the processing of background checks and follow up to ensure timely response. Conduct initial review of background screening results to identify potential issues or areas for clarification.
  • Conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward agency’s mission and core values, which includes reviewing the YCC Employee Handbook and relevant policies. Provide agency overview of services provided and clients served. Ensure new employee onboarding processes are completed properly and in a timely manner, e.g., I-9s, benefits enrollment, new teammate welcome package, and manager new hire checklist.
  • Administer Employee Benefits programs. Establish and maintain records of benefits plans participation, personnel transactions, and employee statistical data for government reporting. Manage the agency’s Wellness Program and Employee Recognition Program.
  • Ensure payroll is transmitted accurately and timely. Ensure that all deductions are accurately reflected for employees and the agency.
  • Advise management in appropriate employee relations issues and the resolutions of issues. Respond to EEOC charges and other governmental agency inquiries.
  • Performs day-today core HR related tasks including but not limited to: answering employee questions, reinforcing agency values through HR related programs and practices. Support managers with employee performance issues and the preparation of appropriate documentation, e.g., disciplinary actions, performance issues, and separation documentation.
  • Manage YCC’s training program to ensure that employees are properly prepared to perform their job functions and to ensure that requirements of funders or licensing agencies are met.
  • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  • Prepare reports, employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reason behind separations. Manages reduction-in-force/job elimination process by preparing notices, providing career transition assistance, and explaining benefit termination date and vacation payout. Assist with compensation analyses, e.g., new hire offers, promotions, pay equity reviews.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Training

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field from an accredited school recognized by the Department of Education; five or more years Human Resources and Management-related experience. PHR or SPHR preferred; nonprofit management experience preferred.

Regional Director Texas

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of war, such as Post-Traumatic Stress. Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of an experienced Regional Director-Texas to join our amazing team.

The Regional Director-Texas will coordinate and oversee the K9 intake system (Dog Depot), evaluate potential service animals and identify potential new funding sources. This position provides support to the development office in all areas relating to the research, preparation, and submission of grant proposals to local, state, and federal entities as well as private foundations and corporate organizations.

This is a hybrid position and requires a very unique skill set. Candidates must currently reside in San Antonio, Texas and have strong networking connections with the local community.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedule all full and part time kennel staff
  • Communicate with procurement coordinator/kennel manager to resolve issues that occur after main operating hours (evening and weekends)
  • Liaise with procurement coordinator/kennel manager set up new dog intakes
  • Communicate dog numbers, medical issues, process changes, kennel issues to all kennel staff via daily recap
  • Liaise with kennel manager to ensure kennels and yards are functioning properly
  • Maintain kennel supply, food and treat inventories and place orders when needed 
  • Oversee kennel staff (including hiring full and part time kennel assistants)
  • Liaise with procurement coordinator when dogs are washed from the program
  • Oversee kennel enrichment volunteers (schedule orientations, print daily sign in sheets, maintain volunteer schedule)

 

Preferred Skills:

  • One year’s experience in non-profit fundraising/community engagement capacity or database management
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database--preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Acute attention to detail and strong organizational and problem-solving skills

 

Other Duties:

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
  • Maintain good communication with kennel staff and management
  • Maintain good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees
  • Plans and coordinates all development and community engagement activities
  • Develops and grows community relationships with donors, volunteers, community organizations or representatives
  • Coordinates with the Development team by; researching funding opportunities, compiling donor information and assisting with grant writing and applications to gain sponsorship and donations and managing volunteers

Grant Specialist

Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of an experienced GRANT SPECIALIST to join our amazing team.

The Grant Specialist will coordinate and oversee the grant application and management process including: identification of potential new funding sources, development of funding resources for existing and proposed programs and/or services, writing grants, developing budgets, and processing, monitoring and coordinating required report evaluations on existing grants. This position provides support to the development office in all areas relating to the research, preparation, and submission of grant proposals to local, state, and federal entities as well as private foundations and corporate organizations. Our development team, grant specialist and organization directors participate in close collaborative work, so we are looking for an individual to join our team on site in our Ponte Vedra, FL office.

 

Essential Functions

  • Developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders.
  • Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
  • Establishing and maintaining personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers.
  • Ensuring prompt, personal acknowledgement of foundation gifts.
  • Maintaining a calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
  • Conducting prospect research and developing a pipeline of new foundation donors.
  • Prioritizing projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals.

Other Duties

  • Providing writing support for other departments as needed.
  • Conducting facility tours, and presentations on and off campus to further educate the public and work toward building relationships and securing funding.
  • All other tasks assigned.

 

Position Qualification and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, English or other related field, plus a minimum of three to five years of experience writing private foundation, federal and state grants in areas of human/social services and/or mental health.
  • Must be able to demonstrate successful track record of grant research, preparation and submission to diverse funding sources (local, state, federal, private, and corporate).
  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the grant process.
  • Familiarity with local funding sources is a plus. 
  • Strong computer/technical skills with demonstrated proficiency in data base management, experience with Raiser’s Edge software preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and public relations skills.

Preferred but not required:

  • American Grant Writers Association certification or similar qualification

Writing sample will be required.

Kennel Assistant

Helping our veterans and rescuing dogs is our priority at K9s For Warriors, it has led to our success. As a result, we continue to grow, and we are searching for a Kennel Assistant.  K9s For Warriors is one of the largest veteran’s service dog organizations in the United States.

Basic Function

The Kennel Assistant supports the proper operation of the canine kennels, which includes the cleaning and maintenance of the kennel facilities, feeding and caring for the kenneled dogs and ensuring the overall safety of the kennel facilities and the dogs.

** Shifts may vary based on needs of the kennel, to include weekends, evenings and rotating days off.

 

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Cleaning the individual dog kennels and surrounding kennel facilities, to include pressure washing, scrubbing and disinfecting
  • Cleaning the dog bowls and toys
  • Bathing dogs
  • Laundering towels
  • Providing food and fresh water for the dogs
  • Walking the dogs between kennels and other areas of the organization’s facilities, while strictly adhering to all policies and procedures for handling the dogs
  • Lifting and stocking dog food and kennel supplies
  • Assisting the veterinary technician with securing the dogs during veterinary treatment
  • Removing and disposing of waste from dog waste stations and cleaning the stations
  • Monitoring medical and behavioral condition of dogs, notating the kennel cards/logs and notifying appropriate staff of concerns
  • Monitoring kennel facility for any hazards or safety concerns

 

Other Duties

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
  • Maintaining good communication with kennel staff and management
  • Maintaining good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees

Qualifications

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds individually
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends

Physical Demands

Ability to exert a moderate to extensive amount of physical effort, including stooping, crouching, walking stairs, climbing and lifting fifty (50) pounds individually.

K9 Trainer

Making a difference in mind, body, and spirit

Helping our veterans and rescuing dogs is our priority at K9s For Warriors, it has led to our success. As a result, we continue to grow, and we are searching for K9 Trainers with at least 1 years of dog training experience. If your experience and background consists of service dog training and maintenance, we especially want to hear from you. K9s For Warriors is one of the largest veteran’s service dog organizations in the United States.

We have immediate openings for K9 Trainers who will be responsible for maintaining the canines that are assigned to them for their training. Our candidates will be detail oriented and will need to be able to maintain each canine’s medical, training and evaluation records as per our policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for training dogs through several different phases which will include, obedience and public access to more advanced tasks based on our protocols and standard operating procedures.

Our candidate will also need excellent communication skills to answer training questions and resolve issues with our veterans and their service dogs. A common knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word is required as is good written and oral communication skills. Our trainers are also responsible for assisting in the care and health of our dogs which consists of feeding, breaking, and or providing medications when needed.

Property Maintenance Specialist

Help Give a New “Leash" on Life to Rescue Dogs and American Heroes

Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of an experienced Property Maintenance Specialist to join our amazing team.

A successful candidate for this position will possess the following skills:

  • Perform minor and major maintenance of all buildings and equipment, unless out of scope of employee licensure or experience.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on building(s) and equipment:

o   Replacing filters
o   Maintaining HVAC systems
o   Repair leaks
o   Painting walls/ceilings
o   Diagnosing problems
o   Inspects belts
o   Checks fluid levels
o   Repairs or replaces broken parts

Maintain landscaping and landscaping equipment

o   Mix and spray/spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees.
o   Mow and edge lawns using power mowers, tractors, and edgers/trimmers.
o   Replace decorative landscaping (i.e. flowers) as needed, apply mulch for protection
o   Gather and remove litter from property
o   Install rock, cement, lighting, water, and furniture
o   Maintain sprinkler system and fountain systems
o   Diagnoses mechanical failures and repairs tractors and maintenance equipment according to manuals, factory specifications, knowledges of engines, and use of tools.
