The PAWS Act - The Time To Act Is Now!

If you’ve followed K9s For Warriors during the last year, then you’ve probably heard about the PAWS Act.  It’s a bill introduced last year by Florida Congressman Ron DeSantis, pushing the VA to fund service dogs as a PTSD treatment option for post-9/11 veterans.  Although we are the nation’s largest and leading service dog organization, we simply do not have the resources to accommodate the tens of thousands of veterans who could benefit from having their own service dog.  The need for this life-saving option is overwhelming.  K9s For Warriors has paired over 300 vets suffering from the invisible wounds of war with highly trained service dogs, but we can’t help this entire, deserving population on our own.  If the bill passes, eligible veterans suffering from severe PTSD and suicidal ideation will be granted the option of a service dog as part of their VA health care treatment.  They can elect to utilize any certified service dog organization of their choosing.

The bill, H.R. 2327, is currently back in the House of Representatives, awaiting a vote.  Will you help us in getting it passed?  It’s easy to do so, just by contacting your local congress representative.  K9s For Warriors and many of our supporters have already done the same.  We know the power of those who believe in a worthy cause – it’s a huge reason we’ve been able to save so many lives during our short history.  Let’s pull together in this push to put more leashes in the hands of disabled veterans.  Go to http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ and type in your zip code. Your state representatives will be displayed to you, and you can choose whom to contact by clicking on their name.

After you’ve contacted your local representative, go to our Facebook page and let us know by writing a comment under our PAWS Act post, and share it with your other friends and family members.

As always, we appreciate your support and look forward to accomplishing more, together.
