About K9s For Warriors

Why Service Dogs?
An estimated 20 veterans die by suicide daily.  In most cases, medication and talk therapy have proven to be insufficient in helping manage PTSD symptoms. Veterans coming into our program are on an average of 10-14 prescription medications. After training with their service dog, 92% reduce or eliminate medication use.

As of 2018, there is now scientific data proving our service dogs work. We partnered with Purdue University to be research subjects in two studies conducted that found evidence that has never before been published.  You can read about that research on our blog, and in Purdue University’s press release on the topic.

Service animals are considered medical equipment and are recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. You can read the ADA's brief description of Service Animal Rights here.
