As the Campus Director of K9s For Warriors’ new training facility in Alachua, FL, Randy and his service dog, Captain, provide leadership and direction to the staff and warriors there. Randy is the principal liaison for incoming warriors, and is responsible for coordinating training and communication with the warriors, meeting fundraising goals, and managing the daily operations of the second campus, called the Gold Family Campus. Prior to K9s For Warriors, Randy was the President of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebel Veterans Organization. Before transferring to UNLV, he served as the President of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society Beta Iota Lambda chapter at San Diego Miramar College.

Randy is also a veteran, having served over ten years as a combat medic in the United States Army. During his service, he was deployed twice to Iraq, totaling 27 months. As a soldier, Randy served his nation proudly. His military service included time at Ft. Stewart, GA, Ft. Jackson, SC, Ft. Irwin, CA, and finally as a patient at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. Randy was medically retired in 2013 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Randy and his service dog, Captain, have traveled the country as advocates for PTSD service dogs since they were paired by K9s For Warriors in August 2014. They were featured in the viral YouTube video, “Dear Captain,” which has nearly 300,000 views. As President of the UNLV Rebel Vets, and with Captain by his side, Randy was instrumental in helping to pass three laws in the state of Nevada that added a student and woman veteran to the Governor’s Veteran Advisory Council, removed the three-year time limit for in-state tuition for recipients of the Fry Scholarship, and required the Nevada System of Higher Education to work with the American Council on Education to award appropriate college credit for military training, education, and experience. In January 2018, Student Veterans of America named Randy and Captain top ten finalists for Student Veteran of the Year, and the Rebel Vets were named a top five finalist for Chapter of the Year, out of 1,500 national chapters.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Randy is a loving husband and proud father of three amazing kids. Captain works hard daily, and he really enjoys playing once his vest comes off. Randy and Captain love the outdoors and try to hike, swim, bike, etc. as much as they can. They are lifelong learners and plan on completing their Masters in Nonprofit Management at the University of Central Florida. Randy earned his BA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Communication Studies, being named the Outstanding Graduate. He earned his AA from San Diego Miramar College in Communication Studies, graduating with Honors and serving as the Commencement Speaker.
